The largest lithium reserve in the United States has been discovered! The lithium reserves of Lithium Americas' Thacker Pass project could reach as high as 40 million tons.
Lithium producer Lithium Americas saw a 7.41% increase in its stock price on Monday, according to a research report. The report indicates that the company's Thacker Pass project in Nevada may be one of the largest lithium deposits in the world.
According to Dolphin Research, lithium producer Lithium Americas (LAC.US) saw a 7.41% increase in its stock price on Monday. A research report indicates that the company's Thacker Pass project in Nevada may be one of the world's largest lithium deposits. Based on the findings of volcanologists and geologists from Lithium Americas, the lithium metal reserves in the McDermitt Caldera, located on the border of Nevada and Oregon, may contain 20-40 million metric tons.
New in-situ analysis reveals that an unusual claystone composed of the mineral illite in the caldera contains 1.3%-2.4% lithium, nearly twice the lithium content of the main lithium-bearing clay mineral, montmorillonite. Montmorillonite is more commonly found than illite.
The company plans to begin mining at Thacker Pass in 2026. A renowned geologist stated, "If they can extract lithium in a very low energy-intensive manner or with a process that doesn't consume too much acid, it will be economically significant. The United States will have its own lithium supply, and industries will be less concerned about supply shortages."
